I’ve finally catching up with some blogs from the summer and here’s looking back to when SW1 Productions put on Maximo Park – Live – Falmouth.

The last time I saw Maximo Park was at the Reading Festival in 2005.  Their debut album A Certain Trigger had been released a few months earlier and they were riding high on the wave of new British and International Bands that were all starting to make their mark on the scene.  (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Bloc Party, The Killers, Kings Of Leon & Editors to name but a few, all of which played at Reading in 2005).

Forward to 2017 and Maximo Park – Live – Falmouth.   Maximo Park are touring in support of their sixth album ‘Risk To Exist’.  The album has received some favourable reviews from the press and has already given us a couple of great singles, the title track ‘Risk to Exist’ and ‘Get High (No I Don’t)’.

Tonight though in Falmouth, Maximo Park seemed to be slightly lacking that edge that I’ve previously seen when they play live.  I wasn’t sure if it was the band or the crowd but as the show went on, both seemed to get into a bit more.  It was a good show with a mix of new material and some of the fan favourites and as always singer Paul Smith looked very sharp in his suit and hat.

Finishing the encore with ‘Apply Some Pressure’ and the previously mentioned single ‘Get High (No I Don’t)’ you can see why Maximo Park are still going strong.

Opening the night for Maximo Park – Live – Falmouth were Manchester band Pins§, who I was looking forward to seeing live as much as Maximo Park.  They have received some good airplay on BBC 6 Music and even had Iggy Pop feature on their recent single ‘Aggrophobe’.  Even without Iggy they have some strong songs (check out ‘All Hail’) and can really cut it live.  They are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
