Boardmasters 2023
I was back at Boardmasters Festival covering the music for Cornwall Live, but also working with the festival’s media partner Clunk Magazine.
Once again 50,000 people were at Watergate Bay for the music side of Boardmasters 2023. It is the perfect summer festival, think good vibes and sunshine (and maybe a little rain)
Boardmasters is a huge festival, in both size and scope. And impossible to see every artist that is playing. But along with the Clunk Magazine team, we did our best to get it covered.
The official Clunk review from Boardmasters 2023 will be up shortly… But until then here’s a look at who I saw and photographed.
Boardmasters 2023 – Friday
Friday got off to a very strong start with sunshine and a musical lineup that hit the ground running! On the mainstage, the highlights included Cian Durcot, (who’d just found out that he’s claimed the No.1 spot in the album charts), Gabriella Aplin and The Vaccines and headliner Lorde.
Everything Everything and Ben Howard also played, both of whom I missed as I was over at the Land of the Saints stage.
Now it’s the Land of Saints where the more interesting music is. I watched full sets from Wunderhorse, Bob Vylan and Warmduscher, caught a little of SG Lewis and then headliners Cypress Hill who played their classic album Black Sunday in full. And stole the day!

Boardmasters 2023 – Saturday
Saturday at Boardmasters was busy, busy, busy with the music and an absolute joy!
On the main stage, I photographed sets from Liam Gallagher, Little Simz (who was incredible), Raye, Confidence Man, Reytons, Lottery Winners and Somebody’s Child.
On the Land of the Saints, I saw Yard Act, Nova Twins, Kid Kapichi and Chapaqua Wrestling.
But it was the smaller stages where Saturday’s magic happened. The Cove had The Last Dinner Party play a mid-afternoon set. The band have come out of nowhere in the last few months to be one of indie’s hottest new acts and I expect to be playing on the main stage next year!
And closing the day at the Keg & Pasty, was the Cornish Instagram legend Jam & Meme who played a set of absolute bangers (and Limp Bizkit) to a full tent!

Boardmasters 2023 – Sunday
Florence and the Machine brought this year’s Boardmasters to a close with one of the most amazing headline sets that I’ve photographed. It was almost spiritual.
And with Florence being the second female headliner of the weekend it shows how Boardmasters is, and has always been supportive of its female performers and Sunday highlighted this with sets across the site from Jockstrap, Sofi Tukker, Lava La Rue and Black Honey.
I also caught sets from Dermot Kennedy, Squid, Pale Blue Eyes, Absolutely Anytime (welcome back Sam & Redley) and Disco Rocco
