Cheryl & Chris’s Eden Project Wedding
The Eden Project is one of Cornwall’s most recognisable venues, and somewhere I’ve spent plenty of time over the years photographing the Eden Sessions. After many years of capturing live music here, it was great to experience the venue from a different perspective when I joined Cheryl & Chris for their wedding. The Mediterranean Biome makes for a pretty spectacular setting, and it was a pleasure to capture it in a completely different way.
Cheryl & Chris chose the Mediterranean Biome for their wedding, using the space for their ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening celebrations. It’s a pretty incredible setting, and somewhere that offers something a little different from your traditional wedding venue.
With its huge glass roof, Mediterranean planting and unusual architecture, the Biome has a character all of its own. And while Cornwall’s weather can be unpredictable, having your wedding inside a space like this means you can enjoy that outdoor feel whatever’s happening outside.
A wedding in the Mediterranean Biome
Having photographed the Eden Sessions for a few years, I was familiar with the venue, but photographing a wedding there was a completely different experience.
It was great to see the Biome being used in this way, with Cheryl & Chris surrounded by their family and friends as they celebrated together. The scale of the space makes it an impressive setting, but it’s the people and the moments between them that make the photographs.
As a wedding photographer, I’m always looking for those little interactions and moments that tell the story of the day, rather than just ticking off a list of posed photographs. A venue as distinctive as the Eden Project gives you a brilliant backdrop, but the real story is what happens within it.
The evening celebrations
For me, the Biome really came into its own as the celebrations moved into the evening.
The lighting reflecting across the glass roof created the illusion of thousands of stars overhead, giving the whole space a completely different atmosphere. It was one of those settings that you don’t come across every day, and it made for some brilliant photographs.
One of the highlights was photographing Cheryl & Chris’s first dance from the gantry high up in the roof of the Biome. It offered a perspective you wouldn’t normally get at a wedding, capturing the couple and the celebrations within the vast space around them.
With Fistral Stereo providing the soundtrack, the evening had a fantastic atmosphere. Having photographed live music at the Eden Sessions, it was particularly enjoyable to experience the venue in this new way, combining my music photography background with a wedding.
Eden Project wedding photography
The Eden Project is a venue that really lends itself to creative wedding photography. The scale of the Biomes, the unusual architecture and the way the light changes throughout the day all offer something different from a more conventional wedding venue.
Having already spent time photographing the Eden Sessions, I knew the space from a different perspective. But weddings are about more than the setting. It’s about the people, the atmosphere and the moments that make each celebration unique.
My approach is to capture the day as it unfolds, keeping things relaxed and letting couples enjoy spending time with their guests. The result is a collection of photographs that brings together the big moments, the little details and all the things that happen in between.
Cheryl & Chris’s wedding was a brilliant opportunity to photograph a familiar venue in a completely different way, and a reminder of just how varied wedding photography in Cornwall can be.
