Music Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023
From the sweaty intimate venues to the huge festival stages, you can feel the raw energy and emotion of the shows as I look back in my Music Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023.
Join me as I (stage) dive into the world of music that I saw through my camera in 2023 and the unforgettable moments that I captured.
2023 was probably the busiest year that I’ve had with live music photography. I was back at the Boardmasters Festival, the Eden Sessions, Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion and my favourite venue the Cornish Bank. And I finally shot my first Stadium show when Muse played at Home Park in Devon.
One of the highlights of 2023 was working with Clunk Magazine. I’ve shot gigs for them over the last few years, but this year Clunk became the official Media Partner for Boardmasters in 2023 and I was part of their team that covered the festival.
As I did with my Wedding Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023, I’m going to talk about some of the images, how I took them and my inspiration for taking the pictures.
And if you want to find out my favourite albums of 2023, scroll down to the end of the post.
Bob Vylan at Boardmasters was so much fun to shoot. They have so much energy and singer Bobby starts every show with a warm-up and a series of yoga stretches. You don’t see this at many shows, but it gets the crowd pumped up and he is ready for the set.
Catching him in mid-air was a dream, he didn’t stay still and was jumping around from the start. I knew I had the chance to get something special, so pretty much kept shooting for the three songs that we were in the pit for. As I watched him make this leap through the viewfinder I had the feeling that I’d got what I wanted.

Little Simz on the main stage at Boardmasters is one of my favourite pictures from my Music Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023.
I’d got some great shots of her performing, but the visuals on the screen behind her had the silhouettes of people dancing and decided to try & get her framed within the person.
I decided to edit the shot in black & white and with a little bit of editing magic and I was able to silhouette her too.
