Wedding Photographer Cornwall - Best of 2023

I always love to look back through the weddings I’ve photographed and remind myself of the wedding moments I’ve been honoured to document. It always puts a big smile on my face.

When making my round-up of the year for my Wedding Photographer Cornwall – Best of 2023, it reminds me of how lucky I am to be doing this crazy thing I get to call a job.

I get to photograph and meet all the wonderful couples, along with their family and friends. They put their trust in me and allowed me to become part of their day to capture the intimate moments, love, laughter, emotion and so much dancing! (2023’s weddings have seen some of the most crazy dance floor action and more crowd surfing than I’ve ever seen).

There were also some amazing Cornwall Wedding Proposals to photograph. These are often secret, so I’ll be somewhere unnoticed and ready to capture the moment you propose.  And being there at the very start of your wedding journey is pretty special.  I’m often as nervous as the proposer!

As well as picking some of my favourite photos from the wedding that I shot in 2023, I’m going to write a little about the image and my inspiration for taking the picture.

The picture was taken at Sam & Dom’s wedding at The Green Cornwall and this venue is an absolute dream to shoot at. They have such a variety of locations that you feel spoilt with the choice! On this occasion, the couple had wanted to take a walk down to a lake for some evening shots and it was on the walk back that I spotted the tree line.

I’ve always been inspired by wide cinematic shots where I can make the subject small, but take in the landscape.

When I saw the tree line and the gap I had the idea of them filling the space. I wanted the image to feel dramatic and for people to look, take it in, get curious and notice the couple even more. It’s also one of my favourite picture on my Wedding Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023

The inspiration came from the couple, Molly & Tom. Their wedding was at an Eco Retreat in Cornwall and they wanted to have pictures in an old quarry. They live at the retreat so know the land well and the quarry is aptly named ‘Foxglove City’. It’s overgrown with greenery and lots & lots of foxgloves. It was quite beautiful to see and I wanted to get in amongst the foxgloves to try and frame them to give the feel that we were totally surrounded.

Colour is a huge influence (as you will see with a lot of pictures on my Wedding Photographer Cornwall – Best of 2023) and I wanted to keep the colour as true as possible to the scene, especially with the contrasts of green that also surround it. But the greens really help the pinks & purples to be subtly vibrant without them taking over.

A little bit about this shot from Wedding Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023. Whenever there is a game of Jenga at a wedding I know that there could be an opportunity for a shot of the tower falling and the reactions of the people playing.

I was with Chris from Babalu Films who was filming the day and we could both see there was a serious game underway.

So we sat close to the action, but not close enough to be in the way or interfere with the game. And we just let it unfold.

Another picture that was taken at the Green Cornwall and you can see the full blog post from Jen & Caz’s – The Green Cornwall Wedding. There were so many pictures from their day that could have been featured on this Wedding Photographer Cornwall – Best of 2023.

But this shot was all about the reflection, and it’s a technique that I’ve used and tried at most weddings this year. I love using mirrors, puddles and reflections of any sort in my photos, but this shot is not a natural reflection, it’s the screen of my phone!

When angeled under my camera lens the screen of the phone reflects the image and helps to bring repetition and patterns into a photograph.

Wedding Photographer Cornwall – Best of 2023

As well as this Wedding Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023.  I’ve got another round-up from my Live Music photos with the Music Photographer Cornwall Best of 2023.

I’m a bit of a music addict and love going to, and shooting gigs.  Although weddings and live music are very different, they share a lot when it comes to photographing them as I am present in that moment and have no control over what is happening.

I think you can see that I love my job and I hope that shines through to you.
