We Are Scientists – Live – Falmouth

We Are Scientists - Live - Falmouth

Live shows in Cornwall can be frustrating at times. Being the most southern part of the UK, it is often missed by many tours and this is felt throughout the local music-loving community.  But when bands do make it down, it makes it all worthwhile.  So when We Are Scientists played at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth they gave us one of the best shows to come to Cornwall in a long time.  If you missed it, then you missed out!

We Are Scientists new album ‘Helter Seltzer‘ is their finest offering since 2008’s ‘Brain Thrust Mastery’ and they proved that they are still as relevant in 2016 as they were when they first emerged with the release of their debut ‘With Love & Squalor‘ in 2006.  They gave us a real performance of style, intelligence, humour and fun. They knew exactly how to draw the crowd in, exchanging banter between songs about the local food – the Cornish Pasty, and the difference between Cornwall & England.

But the real strength was in the songs. The new tracks “Buckle” and “Too Late’’ really stood out amongst the fan favourites, such as “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” and “After Hours.” Vocalist Keith Murray took to the crowd during “Take It Easy” which prompted a few selfies as he danced & sang his way through the crowd.

It’s clear to see why We Are Scientists have stood the test of time and with performances like this on the back of the fantastic new album. I think we can expect to see them for a while yet.

Playing songs from their new album ‘The Blue Swell‘, Beverly are the main support for We Are Scientists on this UK tour.  They have some wonderful shoegaze vocals and dreamy guitars, but really find their pace when the tempo is upped a bit and the guitars get a little more punky.

Opening the show were local two-piece Waxx who are proving to be one of Cornwall’s finest bands.  The indie-grunge duo owned the stage and looked like they were enjoying the set far to much for it to end. Such an impressive sound and presence.
