Live Music 2019

Stereophonics Eden Sessions

So, 2019 was a quiet year for me with regards to Live Music.  I had my busiest year shooting Weddings and our son Jesse was born.  So between the two, life was busy; but happy.   I still managed to make it to a few shows, both with and without my camera.

Without my camera, I got to witness idles play their largest headlining show in the UK at London’s Alexandra Palace.  Having been a big fan of idles since the first album, it really was a celebration of how far they have come since I last saw them.

And with my camera I shot the Eden Sessions for Cornwall Live. I was also due to shoot Boardmasters, until the festival had to be cancelled due to severe weather warnings.  It was a hard decision for the Boardmasters organisers, but the right one!
I started and finished 2019 with a couple of small local shows.  Back in January was Tinnedfruit & Skinny Milk and then in October  there was the Lilac Time.  The Lilac Time was pretty special as I’d spent some time with Stephen Duffy in the summer shooting some portrait shots for the albums promotion.  The show was at Falmouth’s Jam Records and incredibly intimate.

This will be a short collection of my favourite images from 2019 – the Eden Sessions, the Lilac Time, Tinnedfruit and Skinny Milk.  Plus a round up of my favourite music from 2019.  Head to the bottom to see my favourite albums from the year.

My Live Music 2019 wouldn’t be complete without a round up of my favourite albums of the year.  And finally after a thirteen year wait I’ve been able to include Tool to my end of year list.  Their first release since 2006 didn’t disappoint. But my favourite album of 2019 was Black Midi’s ‘Schlagenheim’.  An album the people either loved or hated.  I think the reason I loved it so much was how challenging the album was to listen to! It was chaotic, a mash up of genre’s and vocals the were interesting to listen to. But I’d loved ‘bmbmbm’ since it’d been released as a single and glad that I invested time to this album.

1, Black Midi – Schlagenheim
2, Crows – Silver Tongues
3, Tool – Fear Inoculum
4, Fontaines D.C. – Dogrel
5, Warmdusher – Tainted Lunch
6, Hey Colossus – Four Bibles
7, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Ghosteen
8, Billie Eilish – When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go
9, Mark Lanegan – Somebody’s Knocking
10, Swans – leaving meaning.
